Construction Manager / Site Manager / Assistant Site Manager

Falklands Building Services (FBS) is the largest private sector building company in the Falklands. FBS tenders for local government and private sector construction contracts at competitive prices. For aspiring homeowners, we deliver a range of self-build housing solutions to suit their budget. A choice of kit-homes is available, and we tailor the design to meet the specific requirements of our clients. We help clients from the planning stage up to constructing of a new home. FBS also helps with designing and building alterations to homes, from general repairs and improvements to conservatories or extensions. The positions advertised here are management and senior management positions, and the requirement for each post is shown below:

Responsibilities of Assistant Site Manager and Site Manager:

  • Managing the day to day activities on site to focus on the successful completion of the development/section of a development
  • Managing all activity to ensure the successful implementation of the project
  • Maximising the performance of all site personnel and all outside contractors
  • Managing positive purchaser relationships and promote the company’s reputation in the public arena
  • Ensuring best practice with regard to Health and Safety and Fire prevention
  • Proposing improvements in systems and procedures to Construction Manager and Construction Director
  • Ensuring the implementation, monitoring and compliance of the company’s Quality Control procedures
  • Maintaining accurate reporting and internal and external communication
  • Deputising and representing the Site Manager.
  • Manage all aspects of site administration including up to date information is available and accurate record keeping is in place
  • Regularly attending meetings on construction and informing his/her team on requirements

Requirements for Assistant Site Manager and Site Manager:

  • At least 3 to 5 years in engineering in a principal contractor role, in a supervisory or management capacity
  • Civil Engineering qualification is desirable
  • Strong focus on Health & Safety
  • Passion for getting the job done correctly and for following process and procedural requirements
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage a team of people
  • Experience in leading teams from various cultural backgrounds
  • Reliable, tolerant, and determined
  • Excellent communication skills and well-presented and business like

Responsibilities of Construction Manager:

  • Provide management and governance to maintain and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality across all areas of engineering with specific specialist knowledge within Construction and the nuclear environment.
  • Responsible for the professional development, performance and ethical standards of the staff within their responsibility and reporting chain.
  • Ensure the standards, procedures and work instructions underpinning construction are followed.
  • Ensure construction teams are appropriately organised and that key personnel are demonstrably competent to undertake their roles.
  • Ensure that commissioning activities follow the appropriate Project Delivery Map.
  • Ensure construction records are maintained to support project handover.
  • Responsible for task management to meet the professional standards, performance and integrity of the work and reporting information necessary to support the project and business objectives.

Requirements for Construction Manager:

  • At least 10 years in engineering in a principal contractor role, in management capacity
  • Civil Engineering qualification is desirable
  • Strong focus on Health & Safety
  • Passion for getting the job done correctly and for following process and procedural requirements
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage a team of people
  • Experience in leading teams from various cultural backgrounds
